Indy Car Driving Experience 🏁

If you scroll through my previous blog posts, you will see that a lot of my adventures have something to do with driving some type of vehicle and today is no different. Today’s bucket list adventure is Indy Car Racing!

I’ve had this on my list for a while but it wasn’t at the top. I often look on Groupon to see what deals I can get for certain things and this popped up. I booked the Andretti Racing Experience without hesitation and another adventure had been placed on my upcoming calendar. Sometimes these driving experiences can get pretty pricey so I would definitely advise anyone looking to book one to check around and wait for them to go on sale! Also, when looking for things on Groupon, don’t be afraid to expand your search to different cities nearby that you don’t mind driving to.

On race day, I arrived at the Texas Motor Speedway in Ft. Worth, Texas early and checked in. I had also purchased the video package and the package included the video and hat. Once the participants in my time slot were all checked in we headed into a muster room where we all got fitted for a fire suit and then the rules of the driving experience were explained. We watched a brief video of what to expect while out on the track and completed with a question and answer session. Now it was time to head to the pit!

Once at the pit, I was fitted with a helmet and after a brief wait it was my time to jump in the Indy car. Let me be honest for a second 🤦🏾‍♀️, I almost didn’t fit in the car. I am a little bottom heavy and those cars are not made for women with a little extra cushion in the back with hips to match! Eventually I was able to maneuver myself to get in and all was well but now my feet couldn’t touch the pedals! Luckily they have cushion pads to place behind you to get you pushed up far enough to touch the brake, gas, and clutch.

At this point everything started moving really fast. I was being strapped in, fastened, and pulled tight to make sure there was little room for movement during the drive. A voice came over my headset and he identified himself as “Kevin” my spotter. He explained what he was going to be instructing me to do and asked me if I was ready. “Yep, let’s do this!” In order to get the Indy car moving, it has to get a push start. The push atv behind the Indy car started moving me forward and it was off to the races!

Kevin guided me around the track via headset and before you knew it my drive was over. It went so fast and I wanted more time. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the pit crew was great! Also, I was not the only driver on the track and for some that may be a little intimidating. I was born and raised in Texas and this was my first time going to the Texas Motor Speedway. I was in total awe at how big it was but everything’s bigger in Texas right? Let’s see what I can drive next!
